Continuing the construction of the new resin mill in Riga, Bolderāja neighbourhood, the foundation slab of the future building was laid in March.

In order to develop the production of new synthetic resins based on the natural wood component lignin, thus reducing the share of fossil raw materials in the production of phenolic formaldehyde resins.

The assembly of large-format wooden structures has begun in the expansion project of RSEZ SIA “Verems” birch plywood mill, which will create new, knowledge-intensive jobs in Rēzekne region and will give an opportunity to expand the range of products and services offered by “Latvijas Finieris”.

The initial stage of the VIOBOND international consortium project has concluded, as a result of which a major step has been taken on the road to more sustainable industrial resin production, which is due to begin in Riga during the next five years at the production plant of the project’s lead partner Latvijas Finieris.

9 partners from 5 European Union Member States have joined forces in the VIOBOND project worth EUR 35 million to establish a new, unique bio-based resin plant in Latvia.

Phenolic resins are one of the most versatile polymers yet invented. Spinverse recently supported the VIOBOND consortium to secure funding of 16M € from the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking grant.

St1 is part of the Viobond project consortium which was selected as one of the three flagship projects to obtain BBI-JU (Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking) funding in the frame of HORIZON Europe program for research and innovation.
